1-Castigate
1-Shimian Specter
This is the list I would run if I were to play the deck. The only change I may make is add a red splash and detritivore in the sideboard if need be because of a control heavy metagame.
Basics on how to play the deck:
1) Go agro with hierarchs and such and beatdown.
2) Combo off for infinite life.
3) Combo off for infinite 1/1 white flying spirit tokens.
Alright how to do the combos.
Infinite Life: You need essence warden, saffi, or both in play. If one isn't in play then it has to be in the graveyard. Put crypt champion into play without paying red by chord of calling it out or hardcasting. When doing this you can do one of two things. If you have both essence and saffi in play you respond to his not paying red mana ability by sacrificing saffi to return crypt champion to play. Then allow the sacrifice to resolve and his other ability is still on the stack that brings 2 or less mana cost back. Use this to bring back saffi and infinitely reproduce this combo to gain infinite life off of essence warden.
Infinite Tokens: This combo is very much like the other and requires only teysa instead of essence warden however since the converted mana cost is 3 you have to have her in play. Then you do the crypt champion saffi infinite recurrence and this gives you a 1/1 flying white spirit token every time champion dies.
Good matchups: Slow control decks without many counters. This deck can survive for long periods of time if not put under pressure very quickly. Other combo decks. This deck can go off quickly and has disruption against other combo. Agro decks not running removal, saffi, or kavu predator.
Bad matchups: Fast agro decks that put pressure on it cause it to need a confidant/wall of roots to stick on turn 2 or they have a hard time winning. Decks running saffi, spot removal of any sort, extirpate, or leyline of the void. Any one of these can ruin your combo because a nicely timed removal spell causes your combo to fail. Decks running extirpate simply hit saffi when she goes to the graveyard. Also decks running saffi and have her in play or in a graveyard stop you from comboing out completely and make you either outagro them or outcontrol them. Another possibly bad matchup is a deck running essence warden or kavu predator as they cause your opponent to go infinite life and give that person a huge predator. Therefore your worst matchups would be decks like zoo, selesnya agro, or mirror.
Overall: I do not really like the deck because it is honestly rogue and is easily disrupted by cards that are mainly used for other matchups. This is the kind of deck that is great when its unexpected because most of the time in this situation it can squeak through unnoticed. |
