So running through the Xth edition list with excitement I was coming to the black section and i read that Mortal Combat is coming back. I didn't think much, just passed on thinking it was n00b gold and would only spawn pet decks. 10 seconds later...

Oh fuck...bridge!

Is this card gonna make that deck unstoppable?

If you don't know what the card is, it's an instant win enchantment for 2BB. If you have twenty or more creatures in grave at the beginning of your upkeep you win.

Here's a list of Xth is you don't know by now (almost complete)

Its all the same this card may fit into bridge but it will die to the same hate it died before. If the would reprint Groundseal that would change a lot(there would still be Leyline), but this card doesnt change a lot.

This would be a nice alt.win condition. Especially against extirpate. But it still loses to the Tomad's crypt and Leyline. I think it may see play but it will not really improve the decks competitveness.

but it is good if ur oppo has god ruluskas and sacs dudes as needed to take out bridges but other than that it seems janky as it will mostly be dredged to grave

Mortal Combat reads "At the beggining of your upkeep, if twenty or more creatures cards are in your graveyard, you win the game."

So it doesnt really help that your oppo sac his dudes :/

And I don't think this card is broken in the deck, not even playable because you need 20 of your creatures and thats pretty hard to get even dredging a lot. When you get that number of creatures you'd win with Svogthos or Grave-Troll anyway so its unnecessary. Also I don't think it will win on turn 4 or 5 after it is casted because as I said its very hard to get that number of creatures in your graveyard. Yeah, the card will win later when you dredge more but later than turn 5 may be too late... especially against Gruul (the deck to beat after 10th imo).

yeah, not to mention the fact that bridge doesnt really "draw" cards. most likely, it'll just dredge away mortal kombat =P

I think dredge combo is too disruptable for this to be a good strategy. Maybe building some sort of control dredge deck centered around bringing this online would work, but I don't think comboing out with this as a backup plan is likely to be tier 1, simply on the basis of you won't draw this most of the time and it is completely worthless in your graveyard, and you still don't evade the hate and still lose to the aggro with burn decks.

If you test with dredge a lot, you'll notice that after turn two, you're almost never actually drawing cards, you're dredging. This means

1) You end a lot of games with 2-3 land in play and

2) Mortal Combat is finding its way to the graveyard.

Is dredge strong? Yes. Does MC help? No, not really.

people will say 'Bridge what?' it would be Mortal Dredge or Dregde Combat, or some clever name, and throw in lots of counter magic and willbender for grip =D

And this will be less disrputable, it wont even need the MC to win, bridge makes me laugh, i disrupt it pretty easy

Bridge still dies to extirpate, crypt, leyline, and martyr.
