Besides, drugs aren't legal in the Netherlands. It's just that when you get caught with less than 5 grams of weed or 2 ecstasy pills, the police won't arrest you. They will however, take your drugs from you. More or oter drugs that i mention, are illegal and will be penalized with big fines.
About the Americans hating thing: Most of the higher educated in the Netherlands that have met Americans in person aren't too fond of Americans, this is mostly because those Americans appear to be self-centered, arrogant and short sighted. The people in the lower parts of Dutch society don't hold prejudices versus Americans, because well, they only care about the glitter and gold and don't understand the American way of life. nor have they ever met Americans in person. |
I am wondering if it is even possible to shove more pretentiousness into this post. |

We'll welcome you with a nice banner when you get here.
For MTG, try to find a place in like Utrecht, Amsterdam or Amersfoort, they are also primairy traffic point for public transportation (trains). Utrecht and amsterdam are both pretty expensive living. I live in groningen wich is the perfect (biased?) student city if all you own is a bike and want to pay low rent. The mtg comm. here is not that large though, a prerelease only attracted like 50 people when I quit going there. Also, we are getting more and more and more chineze student here, who aren't very social (they only hang with their own people, so there not much cultural mixing like there was/is with spanish, us and east-eu people)
Ps: The weather here sucks! We have summers that only have like 5 to maybe 10 proper summer days here a year, it's always raining during the fall and the wind is just too anoying. But you gotta love the...hmmmm... uhh.... *thinking*... ah yes! Frikandel Speciaal! |

On a personality test, I did score in the 99th percentile or pretentiousness...

I don't agree on this one. I think Dutch weather is fine. He have about 3-4 weeks during May/June that are good almost every year. Next t that the Month of August is pretty hot. We do get days close to or over 30 degrees. The problem is it get's really humid. Hot weather is not enjoyable over here. I also think people are giving you bad reports on the weather snce it has been raining for the last couple of days.
@ Jorbes: Who are you? As i also live in Groningen. I do believe it is one of the best student city's, but Utrecht and Nijmegen are also very, very fine! |

To get back to topic, if you want to go to Amsterdam there are colleges and Universities, most notable to mention is Universiteit van Amsterdam and Hogeschool van Amsterdam (the latter might be litterly translated to high school but is in fact college.. best to read up on educational city)
Ok now the bad news: getting a place to live in amsterdam, I wish you good luck with that, near impossible and the rent is very high like I said from 350 to 600 or higher if you are very unlucky.. There is a high demand for that. I myself am attending Hogeschool van Amsterdam and live very close to amsterdam, I am not that fond of the city, most people are in my eyes rather arrogant, and it is not quite a clean city either, very old and ugly and not clean at all.. |
