OK lets say I play Manabarbs and my Opp plays halo and named the barbs. Then I play everlasting torment. Does the rules for protection say that the damage is prevented (meaning everlasting torment hoses halo), or does it simply say you can't be dealt damage like the card stats. That would mean torment does nothing against halo. Help me out here please.

protection reduces all damage to zero, so the damage is not prevented, but doesnt deal damage anyway

Everlasting torment does helps against halo, protection prevents damage from the source it protects you from.

Ok, several things:

1. Protection prevents the damage from a source with the stated quality (there is no such thing as 'reducing to zero' any more).

2. So if you opponent plays a Runed Halo naming Manabarbs the damage from the Manabarbs that would be dealt to him will be prevented. It will still deal damage to you.

3. If you then play Everlasting Torment damaged can't be prevented any more (which includes prevention by protection) and the Manabarbs will start working normally again.

Yes, this is the correct answer.
