Mighty Emergence
Whenever a creature with power 5 or greater comes into play under your control, you may put two +1/+1 counters on it.

Primal Forcemage
Whenever another creature comes into play under your control, that creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn.

Do they work as I think they will Idea... or is this pair a dud? Confused

A dud. The creature comes into play as whatever it says on the card. Unless it has power five or higher the Mighty Emergence won't even trigger, no matter what you do to the power after it came into play.

The only way you could have Mighty Emergence work is if instead of using a triggered effect like the one from Primal Forcemage, you used some kind of static ability to pump your creatures. Two likely examples are Light From Within in white and Coat of Arms as colorless.
Static abilities work all the time, and will thus affect power and toughness of creatures as they come into play. Any abilities that trigger on the new value will do so.
Triggered abilities, on the other hand, get only one chance to trigger. If the creture didn't have at least five power when it came into play, only Primal Forcemage will trigger, and Mighty Emergence will not. It won't get a chance again later, since the creature is already in play when Primal Forcemage's ability finishes resolving.

When Primal Forcemage trigger resolves, the creature is already in play, and Mighty Emergence won't trigger.

An harder question would be, if I have Glourious Anthem, and a 4/4 creature comes into play, will Mighty Emergence trigger?
