Here is a list I toy with for a few days now. I'm not good at it, but at least I try to build something on my own Wink

Code:
// Lands
    4 [RAV] Overgrown Tomb
    1 [TE] Reflecting Pool
    4 [10E] Llanowar Wastes
    7 [ALA] Swamp (4)
    7 [LRW] Forest (1)

// Creatures
    4 [PLC] Essence Warden
    4 [TSP] Deathspore Thallid
    4 [EVE] Creakwood Liege
    4 [ON] Nantuko Husk
    4 [FUT] Utopia Mycon

// Spells
    4 [MOR] Bitterblossom
    1 [ALA] Necrogenesis
    4 [FUT] Sprout Swarm
    4 [RAV] Fists of Ironwood
    4 [LRW] Thoughtseize

// Sideboard
SB: 4 [8E] Naturalize
SB: 4 [DK] Tormod's Crypt
SB: 4 [8E] Grave Pact
SB: 3 [LE] Caller of the Claw

Mana curve:
0->0
1->12
2->17
3->4
4->4

Basicaly generates tokens as fast as you can, kill with the Nantuko (possibly with trample from Fists) or with Bitterblossom.

Essence Warden can seem a bit out of place, but it works wonder against elves deck, is handy against aggro ones and buys me some time against all those wich target my HPs.

Deathspore Thallid is handy against aggro decks. The slow generation is a little bonus.

Utopia Mycon probably isn't a good pick. Seems like birds of paradise would fit way better as a mana accelerator ... Or Dark Confidant in a deck that lacks tools to draw cards.

I considered splashing some red to play Roar of the crowd and/or Sprouting Thrinax. If I go that way then I'd probably include Golgari Germination to boost roar with some sacrifices to a Nantuko Husk.

Not sure about planeswalker. How good are they in T1.x? Considered playing Garruk Wildspeaker and/or Sarkhan Vol.

Other cards that I still have in mind ...
To draw: Fecundity, Scarscale Ritual
To induce a discard: Nezumi Bone-Reader
To boost the late game generation: Mycoloth, Rhys the Redeemed

Thanks for your answers and comments Wink Don't feel like you have to go easy on me.

Sprout Swarm+Nettle Sentinel. Wink Best combo I've ever had.

Edit:

Make it a Mono G or Gw saproling token deck. Doubling Season, Utopia Mycon, Muraganda Petroglyphs, Nettle Sentinel, Essence Warden, Mycologist, Psychotrope Thallid, Pallid Mycoderm, Llanowar Elves, Sprout Swarm... There are a lot of great cards to make it. (in old T2 with ravnica in, I had the same deck)

Thanks a lot for your answer Smile

I can see why you'd like a G / Gw saproling deck ... But do you think my BG approach is wrong?

I mainly lack the mana boost part (that's why I can hardly play most of the cards you suggested), but with a lot of cards being 1 or 2 mana to cast I'm quite ok and I get to play cards like Deathspore Thallid, Necrogenesis, Thoughtseize, Creakwood Liege, Nantuko Husk or Grave Pact (random order). Not saying one or the other is better, but I think mine could get somewhere too with some more tweaking (might considere splashing some red tho).

So, I'm looking for a way to manage a card advantage (draw/discard) and another finisher. What should I do?

+ Draw:
1) Replace something (?) by Fecundity
2) Replace Utopia Mycon by Dark Confidant

+ Discard:
3) Nezumi Bone-Reader, is it playable?

+ Finisher:
4) Splash some red and play Roar of the Crowd with maybe some Golgari Germination.

Am I a fool to think I can get somewhere with this deck with a few more tweaks? What would you do to make it better?

I playtested it already. Now, will I get bashed if I say this elf deck and mine are two really different things?

I doubt it, as they are completely different.

However, I also doubt that the deck you're building will ever be tier 1, or have a good matchup against the tier 1 decks of the format (a rogue deck), but you have approached it quite well and made a list that could work.

they are different but i think that deck is just a better version of your deck no offense. its a lot faster and has better elements agaisnt the field.

I aggree, and thanks for the last part. My aim isn't to win a tourney, but rather to learn something about deck building ... And I believe there is still things to be done about that one.

Let me rephrase the first part: "They are different and I think that deck is just better than yours, no offense."

I aggree, and I don't feel offended. I'm trying to make mine better, and posted cause I need some help.

I hope the next one to add a post in this thread won't feel offended either if I ignore him if not talking about the cards that are in the deck Rolling Eyes

I agree with the BoP and Dark Confidant inclusions, especially with last one. With the life gain provided by the essence warden, the Confidant wouldn't pose much of a threat. Additionally, how about Kitchen Finks, at least in the sidebboard if not maindeck? Fists of Ironwood seems underwheling a tad, but I may be wrong. All in all, I believe the sideboard needs the most work. Sun Droplet, combined with the maindeck lifegain engine of Warden + Sprout Swarm seems great and Smother Would also improve your Zoo and Doran matchups.

I disagree about the rogue deck comment. Rogue decks win all the time because the meta decks are not ready for them.....and every meta deck was a rogue deck at one point Wink

Well my friend, Luka. The Confidants and the Bops addition is a very nice idea.

Another thing is that imo you can cut those Nantukos. If you play Nettle Sentinel instead of them, you can easily go for a 4th turn infinite saproling with sprout swarm. At least give them a try! Smile
