yes. although there have been some tournaments where some foil figures were not allowed because they could be distinguished from other cards because the foil causes them to be slightly bent.
in general, all promo cards are just as legal as their non-promo versions though. |

you can play them in any format the card is legal in (standard, extended, legacy, vintage, lorwyn/shadowmoor block constructed).
the low price might come from the high supply of release cards and foils being more easily marked (warped by humidity) and therefore providing a higher risk of a judge penalizing you for marked cards.
if you plan on playing with them at REL regular or competitive events, such as a ptq or a gpt, i would advise you to also play some other foils (such as basic lands) and being extra cautious with the condition of the cards. |

| not really. your best bet if you are worried about the bending is to just buy non-premium versions :-\ |

There are several things you can do to prevent getting penalties while playing foils.
What I usually do is tell the head judge before the tournament about it and he'll check if they can be recognized in the middle of the deck. If they do he makes some signed proxies and I have to keep the original cards always with me and when I play the card I replace the proxie with the real one.
You can also bend it the other way so that it becomes flat. For the usual tourneys I do this and for PTQs or such I prefer to ask to judge to make a proxie. |

| my friend was playing 4 foil figures in the 5k in boston and he got disqualified from the tourney due to the bends on the cards. Me and my friends thought it was a bogus ruling anyway. |

As for the price difference between the promo foil and non promo foil Figures, its because the Foils are twice as easy to get seeing as how they were the Release/PreRelease cards. Normal foils you get from busting packs, and the chances of getting them are alot slimmer. Non-foil versions of the Figures go for more than the Promo version as well.
As for the whole "marked cards"...thats why I prefer non foil. I don't see why people strive to get all foils. All they do is bend/lose value/give you dq's. As well as cost more. When I get foils, I use them as trade bait. I would much rather have 2 nonfoils instead of 1 foil. Goes better for my rather low budget. |

| People get the foils for showing off. Some people like having all foil decks to show off, like using foreign cards. Especially in eternal formats. |

I myself like playing with foils and have found a few things that help alot if you want to keep them from bending.
1. KEEP THEM IN SLEEVES as soon as you get them(not the crappy clear ones).
2. I found your average deck box with a sideboard and a sixty card mainboard fit perfectly when you have them sleeved. Which helps keeping them flat.
3. DO NOT put them in a room with a Humidifier thats just asking for trouble.
4. Keep all beverages away from them.
Open can of pop + mtg foils= someone is going to cry |

| Lets keep the thread on track. This thread is not to tell about the lucky pulls you had. If you have any advice on keeping foils straight, fine, but lets keep it at that. |
