Another 4-3-2-2 seems im out of luck lost in second round to the nuts mono red deck.

Players:
--> ElementalMox

------ SHM ------
Pack 1 pick 1:
Burn Trail
Wildslayer Elves
Cinderhaze Wretch
--> Silkbind Faerie
Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Scar
Ember Gale
Smolder Initiate
Gloomwidow's Feast
Sinking Feeling
Goldenglow Moth
Grief Tyrant
Illuminated Folio
Revelsong Horn
Mass Calcify
Theres been a big whoha on many forums about how mass calcify is not very good now and i agree so i think the pick is between the faerie and the burn trail, I love both cards but faerie is more open pick so i took it.
Pack 1 pick 2:
Boggart Arsonists
Presence of Gond
Briarberry Cohort
Safehold Sentry
--> Consign to Dream
Cultbrand Cinder
Smash to Smithereens
Hungry Spriggan
Loch Korrigan
Scrapbasket
Scuzzback Scrapper
Glamer Spinners
Beseech the Queen
Deus of Calamity
This comes down to glammerspinners or consign to dream, maybe glammerspinners was the correct choice and would leave me more open but i like consign.
Pack 1 pick 3:
Blistering Dieflyn
Morselhoarder
Wingrattle Scarecrow
--> Merrow Wavebreakers
Gloomlance
Rite of Consumption
Inquisitor's Snare
Put Away
Manaforge Cinder
Manamorphose
Tattermunge Witch
Grief Tyrant
Madblind Mountain
The gloomlance is the best card in the pack but I have gone of picking them early as the mana cost is such a big commitment to black and staying mono and open to better splashes latter on pays dividends in this format.
Pack 1 pick 4:
Runes of the Deus
Safehold Duo
Medicine Runner
Ghastly Discovery
Smolder Initiate
Scrapbasket
Strip Bare
Drowner Initiate
Scarscale Ritual
--> Biting Tether
Gloomwidow
Mistveil Plains
Wow know way this card should not be here, unless the pack was like the ridicolous pack sensei got passed the blight foil blight and the rare missing but i do not believe blight and tether are on the same part of the print run so someone has almost gurantely mispicked.
Pack 1 pick 5:
Wildslayer Elves
Gloomlance
Morselhoarder
Chainbreaker
Intimidator Initiate
Sinking Feeling
Inquisitor's Snare
Gloomwidow's Feast
Manaforge Cinder
--> Trip Noose
Heap Doll
The noose is a great answer to many threats and i am almost certainly going to play.
Pack 1 pick 6:
Briarberry Cohort
Blistering Dieflyn
Presence of Gond
Kinscaer Harpoonist
Scuzzback Scrapper
Goldenglow Moth
Zealous Guardian
Loch Korrigan
--> Faerie Swarm
Cursecatcher
This can be a beast with a good flying curve so i think its better than cohort anyway.
Pack 1 pick 7:
Mudbrawler Cohort
--> Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Sootwalkers
Safehold Sentry
Niveous Wisps
Loamdragger Giant
Drowner Initiate
Pili-Pala
Bloodshed Fever
Easy pick as im locked into blue
Pack 1 pick 8:
Wingrattle Scarecrow
Ghastly Discovery
Manamorphose
Turn to Mist
Scarscale Ritual
Elsewhere Flask
Cerulean Wisps
--> Puresight Merrow
No complaints about this one
Pack 1 pick 9:
Cinderhaze Wretch
--> Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Smolder Initiate
Gloomwidow's Feast
Sinking Feeling
Goldenglow Moth
Revelsong Horn
Pack 1 pick 10:
Boggart Arsonists
--> Briarberry Cohort
Smash to Smithereens
Loch Korrigan
Scrapbasket
Scuzzback Scrapper
Pack 1 pick 11:
Blistering Dieflyn
--> Wingrattle Scarecrow
Put Away
Manaforge Cinder
Madblind Mountain
Pack 1 pick 12:
--> Ghastly Discovery
Strip Bare
Drowner Initiate
Mistveil Plains
Pack 1 pick 13:
--> Chainbreaker
Sinking Feeling
Heap Doll
Pack 1 pick 14:
--> Kinscaer Harpoonist
Goldenglow Moth
Pack 1 pick 15:
--> Drowner Initiate
------ SHM ------

Scuzzback Marauders
--> Power of Fire
Kithkin Shielddare

Thistledown Duo
Memory Sluice
Giantbaiting
Blazethorn Scarecrow

Impromptu Raid
Pack 2 pick 4:

--> Watchwing Scarecrow
Barrenton Cragtreads
Scuzzback Marauders
Faerie Macabre
Thornwatch Scarecrow
Rustrazor Butcher
Safewright Quest
Aphotic Wisps
Woeleecher
Corrupt
I took it over cragtreads as it would pose more of a problem against my deck as well as being pretty much the same powert level.
Pack 2 pick 5:
Plague of Vermin (FOIL)
Sootstoke Kindler
Nurturer Initiate
Poison the Well
Gleeful Sabotage
Ashenmoor Cohort
Apothecary Initiate
Whimwader
Resplendent Mentor
Wild Swing
--> Mistmeadow Witch
Looks like im splashing two colours fine by me, though in all honesty i do not think witch is as good as it use to be as the format has speed up so much.
Pack 2 pick 6:
Sickle Ripper
Torpor Dust
Blight Sickle
--> Somnomancer
Spell Syphon
Rustrazor Butcher
Aphotic Wisps
Kithkin Shielddare

Inside Out
Nip Gwyllion
Twinblade Slasher
Dream Fracture
Fang Skulkin

Scourge of the Nobilis
Heartlash Cinder
Duergar Hedge-Mage

Indigo Faerie
Hoof Skulkin
Nip Gwyllion
--> Necroskitter

Hoof Skulkin
Suture Spirit
Impelled Giant
--> Snakeform
Harvest Gwyllion

Round 1 paired vs very aggresive mono green, he gets a balls to the walls aggro start i am forced on defensive for a very long time but eventually take the game with pof on silkbind faerie, game 2 he has another aggresive start buy my start is also pretty fast, we start racing and my power of fire on sonomancer buts things in my favout taking out his twin blase slasher, whilst dropping puresight merrow at same time with banashing knack in hand plus wavebreakers on board, I drop to 4 on his attack, but i draw consign so the knack was not even needed and swing in with team ftw.
Round 2 paired vs mono red, he has 2nd turn riverfall mimic, followed by 3rd turn clout 4th turn ashenmoor liege, I consign the liege but thats not exacly a good thing. Game 2 i get some early beats on and force him on defensive he has hatchet bully but decides he is that far behind he has to throw it infront of puresight i have snakeform, from there i keep droping creatures and win. Game 3 he has turn 1 assilant followed by turn 2 riverfall mimic turn 3 riverfall mimic miss a land drop, but i ahve turn 2 mancer with pof in hand, he attacks in with both mimics but not the assilant can you guess what hes got i never paused to think before pof i mimic, he then drops his own pof on assilant and kills my mancer, i bounce his assilant with selkie hedge mage so all is not lost, he draws into more lands how lucky i biting tethers a sootwalker, as its problamatic for me and he has done quite some damage alreadt and get my beat on he plays a 5th land and hatchet bully things are going to be hard from here as my deck has no real good answers for bully, i drop a sonomancer and silkbind faerie and swing in with team looking to win now before bully wins game, he draws 6th land and plays jaws wipping my entire board and wins. I get message about 10 minutes if that later telling me prof.chaos and his nuts red deck have won the tournament thankfully he had an even higher raiting than me over 1800 so i actually only lost one point of rating for the second round loss as my first round opponent had a good rating also.
Feedback appreciated. |

| Some people write "Wrath is bad in limited" and you just...agree with it? Calcify is the ezpz p1p1, and after that is burn trail then silkbind. |

I think Silkbind is the right choice over Mass Calcify. You're definitely underrating the board sweeper but silkbind is just better as a first pick.
That makes what? 12 out of 13 drafts nearly mono-blue now?
Admittedly this one screamed blue but lately you've been making bad picks just to get the colour.
Also Inquisitor's Snare is amazing, don't be afraid to pick it high. |

I do not think Im quite mono blue that often, I admit im biased towards blue not quite on a quentin martin scale i do also go white and red quite often splash black and only ever go green when i scrub out unless i happen to be lucky enough to have opened a blight.
On calcify Ive herd alot of good arguments against the card and there would not be much point in me doing these things if i was to pig ignorant to listen to what other people are saying. I hate 7 mana spells in this format anyway as they are often irrelevant, the big thing is every colour has acess to white spells now so it is almost always worse than a plague wind and quite often worse than a wrath of god. If you watch the sensei's video on modo sharks called how to draft aimlessly or something like that he ends up with double calcify one of them 5th pick pack one and ends up regretting it but as usual his play skills carry him to finals. |
