Adding a card just to make Tarmogoyf bigger is a bad idea.
No-one knows how Standard will look when Eventide comes out, and no-one can possibly test your deck. I certainly cannot help you. Just wait for the set to come out. Making a deck now is pointless, since you have no possible way of knowing what the deck should beat. I don't think making a deck that is good against the current meta is a very good idea either, since the meta is a result of which deck beats which deck and no deck beats everything. |

This is a ridiculous comment. Making a new deck now is pointless? So everybody should just wait until they see what decks are popular? OK so that means that nobody should make any decks ever because they should all be waiting to see what they should beat. I guess that in your fantasy world, every time a new set rotates in, all the good players are waiting for the idiots to pointlessly make decks so that the good players can then have something to beat. In reality, pros often make decks ahead of time. I just read on starcitygames.com about one pro that is doing this. For one thing, it gives you an idea of what might be popular, and then you can try to beat that. You could get multiple good decks on your own to test against, which is an attempt to imitate what will happen once the set is released and other people try to make good decks. Of course you aren't going to be able to figure it out precisely, but it is far from pointless, especially if you want a good deck to play in a tournament soon after Eventide is released, before you see what's popular. |

Correct.
But you aren't a pro. Neither you nor me are going to spend all that time playtesting. We are speaking of at least 5-6 hours of hard work every day, for weeks. I have a hard time getting 1-2 hours a day playtesting. And believe me, I have tried being early with decks, but by the time I have a working prototype out, the pros have already a close to optimized version in hand.
I haven't even bothered reading the spoilers. I can easily see the potential of powerful cards like Bitterblossom, but that is about it. It takes testing and time to figure out the playables of a set. |
