I don't think manlands, persist, or split second are meant to take control strategies out of the game. They're meant to force control to use an interactive strategy, rather than the "counter everything" style of old blue control.

It doesn't mean a mathematics/card advantage route to success is automatically less viable.

I too miss Wrath, used to play it in my G/W Tooth and Nail back in the day, which was probably the last time I played competitive magic IRL. So I threw together a deck real quick, I dont expect it to be good, so dont knock on me for it, its just an idea to go with this topic:

// Lands
4 [10E] Caves of Koilos
9 [U] Swamp (3)
8 [OD] Plains (4)

// Creatures
4 [SHM] Dusk Urchins
4 [TSB] Avatar of Woe

// Spells
4 [PLC] Damnation
4 [REW] Wrath of God
4 [CS] Coldsteel Heart
4 [LRW] Thoughtseize
4 [PLC] Circle of Affliction
4 [PLC] Extirpate
4 [SHM] Mirrorweave
4 [REW] Mana Tithe

// Sideboard
SB: 4 [PLC] Imp's Mischief
SB: 4 [FUT] Patrician's Scorn

SB I got too lazy to finish. Enjoy.
EDIT: Probably could use some Mutavaults.

Like I said random throw together completely untested, its there cause I've lost quite a few games to it and figured why not.

Can you respond to mirrorweave by mirrorweaving some terrible dude then the other mirrorweave could only target that terrible dude because everyone is copies of said terrible dude?

You miss what I am saying, which is basically is you know what your doing its easy to build a control deck built around card advantage to win with. Its a very tired and over done theme, for good reason obviously and this makes it much harder and creative to win in other ways not necessairly aggro, just anyway that isn't winning by card advantage, I've won countless games that way for years. Everyone who knows anything would choose to win that way, so thoose that opt for a different route and still win should be lauded. Theres nothing stupid about it just your interpretation.

Bitterblossom is another reason wrath has died out. Faeries couldn't care less if you wrath them. All they have to do is drop a scion of oona and they have an army again.

Faeries - Control (possibly aggro-control, like in block)
Reveilark - Control
R/G Mana Ramp - Control
Elves - Aggro
Merfolk - Aggro (possibly aggro-control)
R/x Aggro - Aggro
Doran Doran - Aggro

4 Aggro decks and 3 Control decks. I wouldn't call the meta aggro-dominated.... looks like a nice split for once.

I play a tempo-control elves... >.> everyone hates on them because they aren't typical aggro-elves... it can't aggro, but if it slows the game until it sets up, it late game aggros like sick, but since it can't aggro like at ALL until mid-late, it has to slow down aggro's with stuff like firespout. (wrath n damnation are good, but i don't have any of either, plus my deck doesn't run white, so firespout had to be in there instead)

also, faeries are kinda aggro/control, or one or the other, depends on the set up. *nod* and merfolk tend to be aggro control, since they have to control early to keep their guys alive long enough to aggro out. mid-range aggro is wierd.
