I just became a member yesterday so please excuse me if this one has already been done, which I'm sure it has. I would like to keep this forum "Idiot Free" but I know that's not gonna happen so please limit your stupid comments and 1337 speak to only one post. The point is to choose a side and then explain why you like which one better. People need to learn how to explain their choices instead of picking one then give no other reason except that the other one sucks.

I love Megadeth and Metallica both. But I have to go with Megadeth on this one. I just prefer Dave's writing as compared to James'. Dave's solos also show a little more melody than Kirk's. Kirk loves to shred the guitar, and he's good at it, but Dave can shred without making it sound like he just pulled it out of his ass 3 seconds before he played it. Also, although Megadeth has had constant line up changes, Dave has always picked musicians that were better than their predecessors. Lars is just the worst drummer any band could ever dream of having. James is one of the best vocalists in the business, an artform in which Mustaine clearly fails. But I just prefer the writing and solo style of Mustaine.
Actually Marty Freedman was the main soloist in his days with Megadeath. And hes by far better "Phraser" when it comes to solo's. But Musicially i will go with Megadeath, vocally Metallica. Either way you are gonna get some serious bad ass tunes

I would actually rather here someone say "bitterblossom, go" than either Metallica or Megadeth.

only reason metallica was good was because Dave Mustaine's influence when he used to play for them. Then when the horrible series of events of his departure happened. They just tried to mimic him. After that they went baaaaaaad. Megadeth in result got the better end of the stick, because I highly doubt that they would have formed from it.

Dave wrote most of Marty's solos and if you've ever seen them live, now that Marty is gone, Dave plays most of his solos.

I consider myself a big fan of both bands, but I have to say I do have a preference for Metallica. Both have had their ups and downs.

I used to like stuff like Metallica, Megatdeth and Slayer when I was about twelve and then I got into death metal and that led to me contracting musical A.D.D. When I listen to metal it needs to be noise like Pig Destroyer or The Number Twelve Looks Like You.

Most people think my tunes are just noise and that's fine. I think Metallica and other eighties-type metal is boring beyond belief. Metallica and Slayer might have been crucial in the creation of the bands that I love, but if someone offers me ice cream and then gives me a bag of rock salt I'll still be extremely confused because I don't give a fuck where the things I love from; I just love the things that I love(thanks Patton Oswalt for the metaphor!).

If I had to choose one or the other, I would choose Megadeth for sure though because their music tends to sort of switch up more.

The thing that really gets me about Metallica is I absolutely hate Hetfield's singing...so profoundly. I hate how he always sort of bites words off in a similar fashion to how a little kid will say stuff when they are mad: "I'm mad-uh". That shit reminds me of evangelism and so forth. If I want to listen to some classic metal, I'll put on some old school Napalm Death or something, but Metallica and Megadeth are way to boring for me.

For the folks that will just pounce on me immediately for being into hardcore and grind/thrash, you should keep in mind that I can actually sit through a musical movement, whether it is boring or not...there isn't anything wrong with people not "getting" hardcore hyper-assed noise, it just means that they can't really appreciate all the stuff that is going on or whatever. In fact, most of the people I know that are huge into hardcore and thrash also listen to really obscure, old and or mellow music like John Coltrane(acid-jazz period stuff is awesome), Roy,Ween and whatever else. People that are into crazy music tend to be very open-minded when it comes to music.

To bring this long-winded post to an end I just want to say I don't think my musical taste is better than someone's necessarily I just have a preference and will take stuff at its face value. Kind of the same way some people would rather watch the newest gore flick than the newest critically acclaimed film festival flick on the exploitation of the working man: the gore fan will probably understand why the fil festival film is acclaimed and hailed by many as an amazing film and considers it to be a good film, but at the same time, he finds it boring as all hell.

(summary:Metallica and Megadeth are boring, I would rather listen to more dynamic music. If I had to choose one, I would choose Megadeth. I understand why some people like them and their value musically, but I still think they are boring and suck brutally because of this.)
