lol, mono white with a strong third again. mind elaborating on your changes dakh?

by Lynolf on 2008-08-27 17:14 MST

That's a very interesting "Doran" list. Care to explain your card choices SchwipSchwap?

1 Firespout in Quick n'Toast is tech. ._o

Go go go Martyr Control. Actually I'm curious: how many times was your Divinity of Pride an 8/8?

by okk_45 on 2008-08-27 17:27 MST

woot ZW congrat bud nice top 3

by ZW on 2008-08-27 17:38 MST

by gypsy on 2008-08-27 17:48 MST

finally zw in top3 so now u can bash ppl w/o looking like a huge douche. jk congrats.5c control one of the best decks now i think, beats everything almost consistently except for mra which is like 50/50

by ZW on 2008-08-27 17:51 MST

Lol thanks gypsy, I have so much hate for mono red, that I consider it atleast a 55/45 matchup. Mirrors are kinda hard, as most versions play more teachings, mulldrifter, less condemns/finks.

by Eviail on 2008-08-27 18:03 MST

Interesting 1/2 ofs in the doran deck

by trueeevil on 2008-08-27 18:04 MST

ZW is best player ever

PV > ZW.

*scurries to the protection of PV*

by gypsy on 2008-08-27 19:34 MST

ya pyro is better except at killing vanquisher thats only real problem with pyro everything else doesnt matter. clasm also kills figure b4 its a 4/4

by metzel_usa on 2008-08-27 22:05 MST

i kinda like 1 sulfurous blast in the 5cc deck...its nice to get with teachings

by gypsy on 2008-08-27 22:53 MST

hard to cast sometimes

by snoopster on 2008-08-27 22:54 MST

in magic, players wield decks of cards to summon huge monsters and vanquish their opponents

Amen.

And I've only got one teaching, but maybe I shouldve played blast.

by gypsy on 2008-08-27 23:33 MST

ur almost never gonna teachings for a blast

by Dakh on 2008-08-27 23:54 MST

I think MWC is a very good deck but have a very big problem he suck much vs faeri and quick n tost my match:
1 RDW 2-0
2 RDW with goyf 2-0
3 GB Elves 2-1
4 RDW 2-0
5 Predator 2-0
6 Tost 0-2

Nightscare i've modify the deck and now i think are pretty good (purity because i'm a kids)
My avatar are alwais a 8/8 muahmuah

Sry for my english but i dont know much it

by SchwipSchwap on 2008-08-28 02:18 MST

Yay!
I would like to thank all my opponents for showing good sportsmanship throughout the whole tournament (which I bet was not that easy due to me being very lucky sometimes).

My matchups were:
1 Faeries 2-0
2 Mono White Martyr Control 2-0
3 UW Merfolk 2-1
4 RDW 2-0
5 RDW 2-0
6 bye
drop

When I build this deck I started with putting in all cards I wanted to play and ended up with 72. I dropped some cards and that's the reason the deck has 62 cards with lots of 1/2 offs.

Lynolf: Many card choices (Garruk/Ajani/5 manlands/Loxodon Warhammer/Bitterblossom) result from me trying to be less vulnerable to Wrath of God effects. Apart from that I think all card choices explain themselves. What are the cards you are most surprised to see in a Doran deck?

by Shagrath on 2008-08-28 03:05 MST

5 color control lose against lark. Its an horrid matchup. Tell me ZW, did u face Lark in this trial?
Oh, and congrats SchwipSchwap, your singleton deck almost won a trial, lol.

For me, in your odd choices, i would mention specially:

- 1 Ajani;
- Fertile ground ( with the mana base that this deck has, you shouldn´t have problems, and wall of roots is so much better atm, with doran its a 5/5 wall for 2 mana)
- 4 manamorphose (?!)
- 1 wilt-leaf liege;

by StarWizard on 2008-08-28 06:30 MST

@Shagrath: Reading is tech. He does run 4 BoP *and* 4 Llanowar.

He should def cut the Fertile Grounds though, at the very least. Manamorphose isn't too hot either. I would do -3 Ground -4 Manamorphose +2 Slaughter Pact +2 Vanquisher and 1 free slot to fix the scattered one-ofs and shrink the deck back to 60.

by Shagrath on 2008-08-28 08:30 MST

My bad. Corrected.
Although, with 4 birds, 4 elfs, 4 manamorphose and fertile ground.... too many useless cards for late game.

by asamodious on 2008-08-28 09:28 MST

Yeah I went 4-1 with RG Goyf with predator. (using the same list from us nats top 8)

I really cant win the matchup versus Dakh. the deck can beat all the decks without a problem. wouldve rather faced any other deck r5.

but anyways Grats to the winners.

by ZW on 2008-08-28 10:30 MST

I did not face lark, but it is not that horrible of a matchup, especially when I have 3 extirpates and 2 mind shatters.

by SchwipSchwap on 2008-08-28 10:32 MST

Shagrath & StarWizard:
Probably you are right (I don't know much about how Doran decks should work since I started playing it this week).
Birds and Elves were never useless late game (Garruk or Ajani or Loxodon Warhammer or Doran/Pendelhaven Doran/Wilt-Leaf Liege resp. turn them into threats) in this trial though. That's actually another reason why I played Ajani/Wilt-Leaf Liege.
Manamorphose is one of my favourite magic cards so I probably got carried away a bit here. The idea is to be able to play Cavaliers/Doran with Mutavault mana and be less vulnerable to anti non-basic cards (especially Magus of the Moon) while being colour fixing in general. When I played game 2 in round 5 against RDW with my only non-green mana sources 3 Murmuring Bosks I wished I had Manamorphose ;o). (I know this is nowhere an argument for this card belonging in this deck though).
Fertile Grounds played out quite nice and I'm happy I put it in. In some situations it was even superiour to Wall of Roots (against Mono White Control when it stayed in game after Hallowed Burial and allowing me to finish opponent off with Profane Command and against Mono Red for producing coloured mana with Magus of the Moon in play). The synergie with Garruk's untap ability kicked in too sometimes (but was probably not needed).

by wisdomhappy on 2008-08-28 17:41 MST

manamorphose is an insane cantrip like woah.

by StarWizard on 2008-08-29 09:28 MST

SchwipSchwap, the problem is that you run a 62-card deck that runs a whopping 38 (!) cards that basically do nothing: 23 lands, 8 mana bugs, 4 manamorphose and 3 fertile ground. It's just too much. What if among the 12 cards you'll have by turn five, 8-9 of them are some of those 38? 3-4 threats in 12 cards sounds ok to you? You mention the planeswalkers and warhammer/liege helping the birds and elves do something, and I agree, but what if they counter/thoughtseize away/destroy it? You're left with a bunch of 0/1s and 1/1s that basically do nothing.

I like Manamorphose too, it lets you play Mutavault and CDE HHH creatures, but why not run 4 birds, 2-3 elves, and 4 manamorphose only, then? Fertile Ground and at least 1 elf can easily be cut for more gas. And you should decide if you'd rather have liege, ajani, garruk or warhammer, and play 2 copies of the two you like best, I dunno. That way you Minimize the luck factor by improving your average draws.

by Beto_cL on 2008-09-01 13:09 MST
