November 19th Standard (T2) Tournament Report: GW Glare
Written by Horobi on November 20, 2006 November 19th Standard (T2) Tournament Reportby HorobiI woke up around six in the morning and was really bored. I played a few games on Magic Workstation then went to work. After work at around one I went to our MtG-club. There was type two tournament forming, and I joined it. There were eleven players, and I played GW Glare. I took the New-Mexico t8 list from champs but changed the sideboard. This was my list:
![]() Round 1 vs. UWB Solar Flare In game one I started with Pendelhaven-Bird, and my opponent played a tapped Watery Grave. I resolved Yawimaya Dryad for Temple Garden then passed. My opponent played another tapped shockland, and I added Loxodon Hierarch to my party. My opponent played Compulsive Research and discarded Caves of Coilos. I attacked with Loxodon and resolved Call of the Herd and Saffi Eriksdotter. He drew a card, played a signet and passed. I attacked, he tried Condemn, but I had Stonewood Invocation and the game. He scooped. Game two I sideboarded three Tormod's Crypt and two Condemns. I kept a hand with five lands, Bird and Crypt. All I remember about game is that we both were flooded, and I killed him with Vitu-Ghazi tokens and Stonewood Invocation. Match 1-0 Games 2-0 ![]() Round 2 vs. Mono Green Elves Game one. He starts with Llanowar Elves, as do I. He adds a turn two Silhana Ledgewalker. I played a tapped dual, Saffi and passed. He plays Blanchwood armor and attacks for four. I played Loxodon Hierarch then a karoo, bouncing a forest, and passed. He played Elvish Warrior and Elvish Champion and attacks for six. I played Glare, but my opponent plays Naturalize during his upkeep and wins. Game two I sideboarded four Krosan Grip and two Condemns. I then mulled down to four because I hadn't drawn any land. He wins because I couldn't do anything about his Silhana with Blanchwood Armor. Match 1-1 Games 2-2 Round 3 vs. Mono Green Elves ![]() I was really shocked after round two; I never thought that elves could beat anybody. Game one he plays Llanowar Elves, and I start with Birds of Paradise. He continues with Elvish champion, and I resolve Call of the Herd. Unfortunately, next turn he played Silhana Ledgewalker then Moldervine Cloak, and a few turns later I was dead. Game two I was really scared because losing three games against elves is not okay. I sideboarded four Krosan Grip and two Condemns. I saw only Elvish Warrior and Elvish Champion from my opponent, but I played turn two Dryad, turn three Hierarch, turn four Hierarch and turn five Glare. He scooped. After sideboarding I tried to check my opponent’s deck. It was illegal and contained only 59 cards. I called a judge, and he gave a game loss to my opponent, how lucky. Match 2-1 Games 4-3 During round four my opponent wanted to drop and gave to me a free win. Match 3-1 Games 6-3 Top four was the next: 1 GW Glare 1 RGW Zoo 2 Mono White Tron I was really happy because I knew that all of the decks were good matchups for me. I was paired against zoo. Game one he starts with Savannah Lions, and I played Birds of Paradise. He didn’t topdeck a land and suspended Rift Bolt after his Lion attacked. I played some Call of the Herds and Loxodon Hierarchs, and then he scooped.Game two I sideboarded in two Condemns. He starts with Icatian Javeliners, and I started with a tapped Temple Garden. I really can’t remember this game; I only remember that I won with a lot of tokens from two Thelonite Hermits and Vitu-Ghazi. In the finals I intentionally drew with my friend, so we gained two boosters everybody and went home feeling tired. I really liked playing GW Glare deck because it’s good versus most of the metagame and it’s hard to play with it. Play Magic, win something. Sorry for my poor English =))) -Vladimir Bulanov a.k.a. Alpha_n1 on 2006-11-20 17:09 MST 19 lands glare, 4 bounce. =O never saw that before. basicly you won 2 games, you lost 1, you draw 2. that means 2-1-2. not really a good result. btw i hate glare rofl.
by Sandro on 2006-11-20 17:41 MST The 4 Temple gardens are obv missing from list...
by SkaTista on 2006-11-20 17:47 MST ;{ by nephilim207 on 2006-11-20 18:41 MST Against Fortune Theif, I like Icatian Javelininer. it's a 1 drop, so that's good. It kills fortune theif, and it can also tap down creatures with the glare in play.
by yho on 2006-11-20 18:46 MST gaze of justice? by P_P4E on 2006-11-20 18:53 MST mono white tron is a good matchup... since when?
by ChristPunchr on 2006-11-20 19:35 MST Srrated arrows is a better answer. It kills the thief NOW and also works good against decks that use confidant and so forth that could kill your javelineer before he goes online. by dv8r on 2006-11-20 19:54 MST sry but this is possibly the worse tournament report ever... not your fault by any means, it's quite well written, but you've detailed 4 matches, most of which you couldn't remember details about, 2 of the ones you have were vs mono green elves... I could go on, but I won't because I don't want to be gratuitously mean by HukaPuka on 2006-11-20 20:29 MST I JUST 2-0ed YOU WITH A SHITASTIC DECK ;-) nice though. by Shyft- on 2006-11-20 20:57 MST Alpha_n1 : It has 23 land doof.
by aldaryn on 2006-11-20 23:23 MST Is there a point in railing him? If the article is not useful to you, then just don't read it...you can see the headlines about 2 rounds against elves, if that sounds like pointless information, then go on to the next article. by WasD on 2006-11-21 01:25 MST Agree with Shyft ^^ by WiCkEdWiZaRd on 2006-11-21 01:27 MST YOU WASTED MY TIME BITCH
by Atatator on 2006-11-21 02:46 MST WickedWizard: sooooo sad
by Atatator on 2006-11-21 02:50 MST Mono W tron is a good matchup since i can tap howling mine with a glare....and since i can make a lot of tokens from guildmage and pump them with hermit...irl i tested a lot of games with mono w tron...its good match for me... by Meatwarz on 2006-11-21 03:59 MST Well MWT can still gain 9999 life and kill the field with the 6 wraths. MWT is obv a bad match up for pretty much any aggro deck. by WasD on 2006-11-21 04:23 MST agree with wizard and meat! by vectra on 2006-11-21 08:33 MST ... wtf why ppl report that i pretty sure if any one make a report about a fnm tourment is gonbe better ... you win 2 pack ??? rusain ... ... ... ... ...
by DESTRUCTOR on 2006-11-21 08:51 MST MWT is not a good matchup but is not that bad because the reason atatator just mentioned and the fact that thanks to vitu-ghazi and guildmage is easier for glare to recover from a wrath that the rest of aggro decks
by Atatator on 2006-11-21 09:58 MST Meat, can you read some cards? as long as we are playing by loxodon hierarch - its only 4 wraths...sunscour? ok, regen my guys... by vectra on 2006-11-21 11:02 MST by Atatator on 2006-11-21 11:58 EST
by Meatwarz on 2006-11-21 12:34 MST btw he meant that he can sacrifice Hierarch to regenerate all guys in response to Sunscour, not to WoG..
by KajTheMan on 2006-11-21 12:46 MST Vectra didnt obv read his post its the sunscour that can be regenarated not wog obs by KajTheMan on 2006-11-21 12:48 MST i heard that tormonds crypt and glare can be good too against the life gain
by Atatator on 2006-11-21 13:36 MST yea....my record was near 80 each turn without any advantage from howl. mines. 21 from martyr <<<<<<< 80 from my guys by GreenMidget on 2006-11-21 15:31 MST I wonder if people in here actually look at some of the stuff they write...
by Columbus on 2006-11-22 18:20 MST There's no way Glare could've beaten Solar Flare that easily unless the guy's build just plain sucked, or he fell asleep during the match and you won because time was called. And why would he scoop to a Stonewood Invocation? It obviously wasn't lethal damage and his next draw could've been a Wrath. So what if you had Saffi in play. Flare has an answer to every card in Glare. That first matchup sounds simply fake and made-up.
by WiCkEdWiZaRd on 2006-11-22 22:02 MST Columbus no one cares about your opinion.
